While the admissions committee is busy reading your admission essay, there are several other admission essays in line, waiting for their turn to be read. Let?s face it: with that high pile of admissions essays to be read and applications to process, there?s a fat chance that the admissions officer would not spend too much time reading your essay and trying to understand what you are actually trying to say. What do you do about that? Keep your essay short but sweet.
Only include most relevant and important details.
Plan your admission essay. You can start by making a list of the things that you think you should include in your essay and arrange them according to relevance. In gauging which things are most important, those that are more interesting, more relevant to the course or school you are applying to or more relevant to your application should get more weight. Once you?ve decided on what to include in your essay, make an outline. Don?t forget to draft the flow of thoughts in your essay. Don?t just make them sound like bits and pieces jammed together in a paper. Let them flow build into your thesis statement. Once your blueprint is set, start writing.
Don’t forget the finishing touches.
Proofread your essay before submitting it. Errors and other flaws are manifestations of carelessness or ignorance and you would, of course, do better without giving the admissions committee and impression that you have them. Check for technical slip-ups like typographical, grammatical, spelling or punctuation errors. Start your essay by getting attention; end it by leaving a mark.
Continue revising until it sounds right
Read and reread your essay to make sure that your thoughts and the language flow smoothly. Needless to say, a well-written essay leaves a reader to notice the more essential points in your piece instead of errors and other flaws.
